Even with a plethora of Indian restaurants to choose from, it can still be difficult finding one that manages to balance authentic food with classy décor and professional service. Fortunately Nikee’s Restaurant lives up to expectations.
Run by father and son Niki and Amreet Singh, Nikee’s is beautifully designed with redwood square tables and gorgeous wooden floors, moving away from the alarming trend of Indian decor featuring massive mirrors that make you feel self-conscious as you eat.
A golden Ganesh greets you at the door while floor-to-ceiling windows open to the intimate eaterie, allowing natural light onto an interior designed in clean neutrals with accents of mulberry red and earthen furniture. The ambient music sends out the message: relax.
Front of house staff are polite, friendly and efficient, allowing you just the right amount of time to choose from the impressive drinks menu. There is a long list of red, white and rose wine on offer as well as champagne and a range of liquors. Cocktails can also be whizzed up on request.
The starters are generous enough for two to share and include tender melt-in-the-mouth lamb chops marinated with spices and chargrilled Chinese-inspired chilli paneer, providing the perfect start to a meal. Be careful of the piri piri mogo sweet potatoes as they’re only suited for those with a high pain threshold! Try the moreish chicken wings garnished with red onion cubes, lemon juice and a delicious hot sauce, which will leave you with pleasantly tingling lips.
There is a range of vegetarian, meat and seafood dishes to choose from. Try the dhal makhani butter chicken, cooked to perfection by the talented Sudhir Sharma who has seven years’ experience as head chef at a top Delhi hotel. The chicken is delicious, tender and very filling. Fresh ingredients are sourced locally and are organic where possible, adding real flavour to the array of dishes.
It is little wonder that the restaurant has a share of celebrity patrons including Rishi Rich, Juggy D, H Dhami, Jassi Sidhu and cricketer Yuvraj Singh. Prices are balanced between its local clientele and its central London standard. Whether you want a chilled meal with friends or a romantic meal for two, Nikee’s will deliver.
