I’ve got my heart set on having colourful centrepieces decorating the tables, but while most people seem to use floral bouquets, I suffer from hayfever and don’t want to spend my wedding day sneezing! Help!

A delicious and eye catching alternative to using fresh flowers as a centrepiece is using fruit to create individual looking edible sculptures. Tropical fruits like mango and papaya are hand-carved and moulded into petal shapes while smaller fruits like grapes and strawberries can be threaded onto skewers to imitate foliage.

You won’t need to worry about there being any wastage, the mouth watering scent of juicy honeydew melon and pineapple slices will be welcomed by your guests who will be eager to devour them. Fruit Like Flowers (www.fruitlikeflowers.com) offers a range of arrangements with seasonal fruits – covered in chocolate if you prefer, from £35.

For evening receptions, candles add a romantic ambience and always look pretty in the centre of tables. Angels Interiors (www.angelsinteriors.co.uk) offer advice on unique ways in which to dress your tables including placing candles inside crystal vases (from £35) and enveloped in beaded mesh wire. Or for something completely different Lotus Flowers (email lotusfloral@ yahoo.co.uk) can arrange for miniature fish bowls (from £40) to be placed on each table injecting instant exoticism to your day.
