Rajesh Khanna dies aged 69
Film fans from all over the world are mourning the loss of one of the greatest ever Indian actors. Rajesh Khanna has died aged 69 after battling serious health problems over the last few months.
The original star of ‘reality contests’, Khanna rose to fame when he entered the All India Talent Competition in 1965. His prize for winning was being signed in Chetan Anand’s Aakhri Khat and Ravindra Dave’s Raaz.
Subsequently he gained work on films like Baharon Ke Sapne, Aurat and Aradhana which was the launch pad movie of future stars Sharmila Tagore, Kishore Kumar and R.D. Burman.
During his career he worked on over 160 films and was the most loved romantic hero of the 1970s and was affectionately called Kaka by his fans. He received major several industry awards for acting.
Khanna was married to actress Dimple Kapadia, and although they split in 1984, they never divorced, and she had been by his side over the last few months. Khanna died peacefully at home. His son-in-law, the actor Akshay Kumar said: ‘He has gone to a very nice and heavenly place and we are very happy he has gone there.’
