Oscar reject reigns at Filmfare Awards

Barfi! Wins Big

Barfi! may have missed out on an Oscar’s nomination, but the Charlie Chaplainesque Indian love story was a big winner at last night’s Filmfare Awards. It took home six awards; Best Film, Best Musical Director, Best Background Score, Best Production Design, Sony Trendsetter of the Year and Best Actor, going to lead Ranbir Kapoor.
The film was India’s Oscar entry in the International Film category but missed making the shortlist.
 One the most anticipated Bollywood awards event of the year, all the major stars were in attendance including Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi. The movie industry also paid tribute to the late Yash Chopra with a Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrated in his memory, the monumental director, died in October last year shortly before his final release; Jab Tak Hai Jaan. To honour his work and legacy, the event was also held at his studios, Yash Raj Films.
