Second Chance
It's never too late (or expensive) to learn, at Park Royal College
Feel like you’ve missed out on a proper education? Know a family member who'd love to brush up on their English but it’s all too expensive? Park Royal College may just have the answers.
At first glance, it's a large grey building set on a busy road on the edge of London's famous Park Royal Industrial Estate. But go through the main entrance, and you enter another dimension: a vast 60,000 square foot state of the art learning campus housing lecture theatres, classrooms, specialist teaching areas, E- Learning Centre, common room and canteen. On the inside, we certainly make up for what's not on the outside, smiles the College's Academic Head David Malachi. "But education is, and should be, about learning, achievement, opportunity - not buildings - and that's what we aim to give each and every person who sets foot inside our door. Believe, Dare, Achieve is our mantra. Everyone is important in our college and that's what makes the place so special."
Park Royal College is a new Independent Further and Higher Education College in Greater London. A predominantly Asian College that has traditionally educated around 1,500 International Students each year and in September 2011 is opening its doors to Home and European Union students. ‘We’re a good College, recently rated Outstanding by one of our Awarding Bodies’, adds David, ‘And we think we have something important that resonates with the wider Asian Community – our concept of being a family, a true community of learning’.
Looking around the college it is clear why students feel at home, and safe, at Park Royal College. We are a massive family and we look out for each other. ‘We feel safe and our tutors really go the extra mile for us,’ says Jashmeen, 19, who is studying a Higher National Diploma in Health and Social Care. Another student, Sinu, 20, adds, ‘before I came to Park Royal I was worried about how I would be able to afford my tuition fees and whether the standards were as good as they said they were. But I can and they are! The College Placement Team has helped me find employment and I am now thinking about my studies at Masters level’.
Winnie, a 22-year-old Health Studies Student believes: ‘At this College we don’t have to worry about paying huge fees or building a long term debt and for me and my family that is very important.’

It’s clear that Park Royal College are passionate about learning and its ability to transform lives and want to remove traditional and new barriers, to learning. The College provides learning for every stage, including degree level and postgraduate programmes.
‘We’re proud to be a predominantly Asian College at the heart of the Asian Community’, says David, ‘Many young people leave school uninspired, unclear and unchallenged. Our New Horizons programme is specially designed for 18 year olds, with potential, that have their GCSE qualifications but did not succeed at A Level. We help them achieve a fast track Level Three qualification and encourage them to progress into their chosen Undergraduate programme giving them the right skills to get them to their next step, be it further study or a job.’
Undergraduate Student, Nithin, 20, sums up: ‘In the current economic climate, our college really helps us to stand head and shoulders above the rest, helping us develop the skills we need to get on the right track to compete and succeed in today’s world of work.’
