Know the facts about sunscreen...

Dermatologist Dr Sandeep Cliff is based at the Cadogan Clinic in Chelsea. He is also a senior lecturer at St George's Medical School in London. Sandeep shares his tips on taking care of your skin in the sun.
• Sunscreens principally block UVB rays, however many don’t shield against UVA rays, which can cause skin cancer and premature ageing. So pick sunscreens with broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
• Sunscreen should be applied to all the exposed skin and make sure you use enough. The face for example, should have around one third of a teaspoon massaged in.
• Apply protection at least 15 minutes prior to sun exposure, and then reapply after 30 minutes of being outdoors. Further application after swimming or sweating is recommended.
• Moisturiser with an added SPF is ideal for daily use, as it not only protects against the sun’s rays, but also hydrates the skin. My personal preference is the Neutrogena range, but Olay and Clinique offer good options too.
• When you’re in a tropical climate, you naturally sweat more, so apply sun protection more regularly than you would at home. Choose a high SPF of at least 15 and with at least a 3 star rating to protect against early ageing of the skin.
