UB40 daughter launches world’s largest natural halal-certified beauty range
By fashion_admin | Posted Thu 26 January 2012
Just a year after opening the first store of its kind, Rose Brown - the daughter of UB40 Ivor Novella award-winning song-writer/drummer Jimmy Brown - is set to revolutionize the Halal Beauty Industry once again with the launch of “The PHB Collection,” the largest natural, Halal and Vegan Certified beauty range worldwide.
Rose’s unique concept began with the opening of the first Pure Halal Beauty store in December 2010 in Birmingham’s Pavilions Shopping Centre. The store, which is dedicated solely to Halal Certified beauty products, provides a service that is completely unique to the UK and Europe.
Rose says, “So many people have benefited from the opening of Pure Halal Beauty, both locally from our Birmingham store and internationally through our website www.purehalalbeauty.com. People are forever telling us what a great service we provide because there simply isn’t anywhere that caters for people’s needs in the diverse ways that we do!”
Her dedication to providing the best Halal Certified beauty products is what has inspired her to create her own range “The PHB Collection.”
“When I started Pure Halal Beauty we were importing Halal Certified ranges from around the world into the UK because there was nothing to cater for people’s everyday needs. We imported products from Europe, Malaysia and the USA. In my eagerness to provide a truly ethical service I began studying the various ingredients in every product further and I found that although they were nowhere near as harsh as most high-street brands, Halal Certified products can still be made using chemical-derived ingredients.”
This spurred Rose into action, and she began to research into creating her own product range. Now less than a year later The PHB Collection has been launched. Made by hand using all natural ingredients the range is comprised of 80 unique cosmetic and skincare products, and is the world’s largest natural halal range.
“I’m really proud of the range I’ve been able to create, not only are the products completely natural but they have wonderful eco-credentials, and crucially they are affordable”.

The range is registered with The Vegan Society, and is hand-made in the UK. The ingredients are ethically harvested from sustainable sources, and the range uses eco-friendly packaging that is made from recycled materials and is 100% recyclable.
Rose says, “We have only just launched the range and the response has already been overwhelming. I have had support and encouragement from around the country from people who are so happy about the release of The PHB Collection. Muslims, vegans and vegetarians love our products because they don’t conflict with their personal and religious beliefs, and we’re seeing an influx of conscious consumers looking for chemical-free beauty products. People who want to use natural, ethical and beneficial beauty products are always so pleased with our phenomenal range as well as our fantastic prices!”
While many people would baulk at the idea of setting up a business in the current climate Rose welcomes the challenge, “The global Halal Cosmetics industry is estimated to be worth $560 million globally and this is only set to increase as general awareness grows. But for me the most important thing is that I’m providing a service to people that wouldn’t otherwise be available to them. Some people think I’m crazy(!) but I have great belief in the products I’m selling and the prospects for expansion are looking very promising.”
