Your bridal beauty dilemmas solved by Anjana Gosai

I can’t afford a professional whitening treatment, but I’d love my teeth to look brighter. What can I do?

There are many home whitening kits to choose from, but I’ve heard good things about the Go Smile Whitening System (www. spacenk.com). The kit includes single-dose ampoules filled with a whitening serum, designed to be used for two-minutes, twice a day, for a week. The makers promise a brighter smile in just one day.

If you’re after an instant fix, you might want to try the new Pearlys Whitening Pen (www.pearlys.co.uk). The sleek looking pen has a brush dispenser that should be used to paint the peroxide bleaching gel over the teeth. When using, make sure you keep the lips away from the teeth for 30 seconds so that the gel can dry.

I spoke to celebrity dentist Dr Mervyn Druian of The London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry recently, who told me that the only whitening toothpaste he recommends is Retardex (www.closys.com). This contains a very small amount of the whitening agent chlorine dioxide, to remove existing stains. But before you rush out to buy it, visit your hygienist for a proper clean, and then use the toothpaste to maintain the results.

TRY IT... My Face Work Revitalizing Eye Mask (www.beautyworkswest.com). I recently discovered these biodegradable silk masks that come infused with concentrated skin care ingredients. My favourite is the I Need to Open My Eyes Mask – it is a real energy drink for the eye zone. It intensely moisturises dehydrated areas and minimises puffiness. A must have for your Big Day!

GET THE PERFECT BODY

Help! I need to get into shape for a bikini body for my honeymoon.

Drink lots of water. Being adequately hydrated means you have more radiant skin, more energy, and all-around better health. Avoid fad diets and eat more fruits and vegetables. You don’t have to join a gym, but the more vigorous the activity you indulge in, the better. Your body and mind need regular active movement to feel fabulous on a regular basis. If you want to cheat, you might want to try Hoodia or Alli supplements, or join a weight-loss programme such as the one offered by Dr Karun Makhija (kmakhija@vsnl.com). And start getting into practice by slowly starting to bare – banish those anxieties before you hit the beach!

Release the frizz

My hair gets very frizzy in hot and humid weather. I am getting married this summer and need a stronger solution than serum. Please help!

The new Frizz-Ease 3-day Straight by John Frieda claims to provide semi-permanent hair straightening. The added keratin and a heat-activated polymer technology helps to keep the hair straight for three days, and against eight hours worth of humidity.

If you’d rather not rely on products, you could book in for the Global Keratin Hair Taming System – an in-salon procedure, designed to tame frizzy and unmanageable locks. The treatment begins with a hair wash, followed by the application of a keratin treatment, which is infused with juvexin – a blend of proteins derived from New Zealand sheep wool. The long protein chains of juvexin closely mirror our hair's own keratin structure and work by bonding with the locks to repair, protect and nourish. The hair is then blow-dried to activate the ingredients. To finish, hot irons are used to heat lock the product into each hair strand. I sent a friend of mine to the salon to test it out and she is delighted with her new, silky smooth hair; the results of which could last for up to five months.

Ask your local salon for details.
